The wistful look out of the window of a ballerina. Wishing she was dancing? Or is her head being held in frustration? Can’t she quite learn the routine to the end? What is it? You decide…
To wear a tu-tu and ballerina slippers is the dream of many a little girl. My Aunt had some pointy ballet slippers with ends so hard so as not to hurt her toes as she practised. The fabric of the tu-tu and silkiness of her slippers does not appear to appease the wearer in this painting. The way she holds her head appears to be in despair or frustration; neither is clear.
